The Assad Family
Famous for their performances with Yo-Yo Ma, guitarists Sergio and Odair Assad are joined by their sister and daughters on vocals to perform haunting and sublime classical and Brazilian repertoire.
The Assad brothers first introduced three generations of The Assad family to North America and Europe in 2004: their parents Jorge and Angelina, sister Badi, Sérgio’s children Clarice and Rodrigo, and Odair’s daughter Carolina. The tour climaxed in two remarkable concerts in the Temple of Dendur at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City and the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. This was the first time Sérgio & Odair’s parents had ever performed on an international stage and they charmed us all. Badi has long been known for her remarkable vocal range and her unique song style, both live and on CD. Clarice is a budding composer, pianist and vocalist with several symphonic works to her name. And Carolina is a gorgeous vocalist with an innate feel for the rhythms of Brazil. With the passing of their father, the Assads are touring as a quintet, exploring some of the most beautiful folk and pop music written by Brazil’s iconic composers, as well as music written by the Assads themselves. The program features their newest suite, De Volta As Raizes.
